On August 2nd, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that the long-term Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the FDA and the US Feed Control Association (AAFCO) will officially expire on October 1st, 2024, and will not be considered for renewal after expiration.

Thailand forecasts pet food exports to reach $2.50 billion by 2024

Thailand's Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) agricultural and industrial trade promotion office predicts that pet food exports will reach $2.50 billion (2.40 billion euros) this year, a year-on-year increase of 3%. In 2023, Thailand's pet food exports will reach $2.46 billion (2.30 billion euros).

From January to May 2024, Thailand's pet food exports reached $1.10 billion (1 billion euros), an increase of 37.6% year-on-year.

The acquisition of Decro gives it the intellectual property rights to both projects, as well as the rights to develop, manufacture, and monetize globally.

European Union approves indigo carmine as a food additive for big cats

On July 26th, according to the European Union Food Safety Authority (EFSA), the European Union Animal Feed Additives and Products (FEEDAP) research group believes that indigo carmine (a pigment with a purity of at least 85%) is safe for cats and dogs at a level of 250 mg/kg full-price feed, and is safe for ornamental fish at a level of 1000 mg/kg full-price feed.

British Veterinary Association supports vegan dog diets

The British Veterinary Association (BVA) has updated its position on diet choices for cats and dogs, recognizing that dogs could be safely fed a vegan diet as long as it is nutritionally complete and has no negative long-term impact on their health.

The BVA maintains its position on the impossibility of forming a complete plant-based diet for cats. “Current research suggests that it is not possible to form a complete vegan or vegetarian diet for cats, as they are obligate carnivores and there is a lack of suitable synthetic essential amino acids available.”

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China has approved 43 new SKUs for pet dog and cat feed and feed additives, including 13 new SKUs for imported cat food, 20 new SKUs for imported dog food, and 10 new SKUs for dog and cat nutritional supplements.
